HistoryBefore we begin scaring ourselves, a little history lesson is in order. Originally, an Ouija board was intended to be a parlour game at its inception in 1890 but was popularised as a divination tool during the first World War. Description and UseOuija boards are also called spirit or talking boards, and are used by spiritualists to communicate with surrounding entities. The board is made of smooth-finish wood, printed with the English alphabet and the numbers 0 through 9. It also has 'yes', 'no', and 'good bye' written on it. A planchette is used with the board. It’s a heart-shaped piece of plastic or wood with a hole in the middle covered by a lens to indicate what character the 'spirit' selects. Users place their fingers on the planchette, which is supposed to move toward the letters or words that the spirits want to communicate.
